About the English Club
Founded in 1997, the aim of the school was clear from the start: giving multi-lingual children the complimentary classes necessary to be up to par with their counterparts in English speaking countries. Over the years the classes grew from five children around the table to a school of its own.
Description of our courses
EFES – English for English speakers
EFES teaches both reading and writing to bilingual children in the local French school system. This allows students to maintain their English skills and facilitates their transition between the French and English speaking cultures.
Often students are in need of assistance to write correctly structured sentences and to express their ideas clearly. Therefore, classes are designed to teach reading, writing and thinking skills that can easily be translated into any language.
This is done for younger children by introducing phonetic skills in their maternal (English) language before they learn phonics in the French schools. For older children a solid base is established by building on their phonetic and spelling skills. This gives them the confidence and skills to distinguish between the two languages.
Classes are structured so that during the course of the academic year the child covers the essentials in language arts. Children attend the school for their 1 or 1 ½ hour class, depending on their age, have homework assignments and read books from our lending library.
EFL – English as a Foreign Language
For young students the Centre offers EFL courses at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. The beginner level introduces English sounds, vocabulary and phrases for basic communication while the intermediate level teaches grammar from around 8 years old and gives the students a solid base before they enter English classes in school. The advanced level is for the student who already has a very good knowledge but wants to continue to develop their oral and written skills.
The classes are divided by age as well as by ability levels with young students being able to enter the school at different ages.
